Hong Kong Design Institute

Hong Kong has continued to strengthen the training of jewellery practitioners and improve the professional qualifications framework to attract more talents to join the industry. For example, the jewellery courses offered by Hong Kong Design Institute (HKDI) and School of Continuing Education of Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU-SCE), the watches and jewellery courses provided by the Employees Retraining Board. The comprehensive and diversified programmes in design, production, marketing and management strive to nurture professionals in the jewellery industry.

The Qualifications Framework (QF) launched by the government is a seven-level hierarchy covering qualifications in the academic, vocational and professional as well as continuing education sectors. The Jewellery Industry Training Advisory Committee and the Vocational Training Council carry out assessments for recognition of prior learning, assist practitioners in setting a starting point for personal learning and encourage them to continue their studies. There are altogether 47 clusters of units of competency for the jewellery industry, covering nine special areas: marketing and promotion, sales, operation management, design, research and product development, production, technology support, quality management, logistics and purchasing.
